What a book! This is my first historical fiction based on the cruel history of Queensland's Native Police. This book is brutal! The violence and the treatment of aboriginal people are beyond awful but sadly, the events described in this book did happen... and what is worse... some of it still happens! This book is beautifully written, the author transported me to Summer in the desolated parts of Queensland in the eighteen hundreds (in some parts he did a too good job for my liking!) I would have never picked up this book if I had't received it in my Book Grocer Advent Calendar - Great selection so far! Ohh... and this is the author's debut novel.. wow! I will be keen to read more books by him in the future. (less)
